Varhaník, cembalista a hráč na klavichord, improvizátor, skladatel a pedagog Jaroslav Tůma se narodil v Praze (1956). Zde také absolvoval konzervatoř a Akademii múzických umění u profesorů Milana Šlechty a Zuzany Růžičkové. Během studií získal řadu ocenění v mezinárodních soutěžích, například za varhanní interpretaci v Linci, v Praze, v Lipsku. Účastnil se mnoha festivalů (Pražské jaro, Internationale Orgelwoche Nuernberg, Musikfestspiele Dresden, Flanderský festival). Zvítězil v improvizačních soutěžích v Norimberku (1980) a v Haarlemu (1986). Na některých dnes zasedá jako porotce. Od roku 1990 vyučuje na pražské AMU. Rád koncertuje na historických nástrojích či jejich kopiích. Ve svých recitálech ale také pravidelně uvádí hudbu 20. století. Jeho cestovní deník obsahuje názvy většiny států Evropy. Koncertoval i ve Spojených státech amerických, v Japonsku a Singapuru. V Praze v letech 1990 až 1993 souborně provedl celé Bachovo varhanní dílo, za což mu byla přiznána Výroční cena Nadace českého hudebního fondu. Nahrává pro rozhlas, televizi a četná hudební vydavatelství. V popředí pozornosti Jaroslava Tůmy stojí také aktivity týkající se historických varhan, jejich restaurování, zvukové dokumentace apod. Pro Českou televizi natočil a komentoval jedenáctidílný seriál o historických varhanách v Čechách.

Jaroslav Tůma  se narodil v roce 1956. Je koncertním varhaníkem a profesorem Akademie múzických umění v Praze. Koncertuje i na cembale, klavichordu, pianoforte a dalších klávesových nástrojích. Věnuje se též hudební kompozici a publikační činnosti.

Vystudoval Pražskou konzervatoř u prof. Jaroslava Vodrážky a Akademii múzických umění v Praze u prof. Milana Šlechty (varhany) a prof. Zuzany Růžičkové (cembalo). Je nositelem prvních cen v soutěžích ve varhanní improvizaci v Norimberku v roce 1980 a v holandském Haarlemu v roce 1986, laureátem řady interpretačních varhanních soutěží, např. v Linci v roce 1978, v soutěži Pražského jara v roce 1979, v soutěži Johanna Sebastiana Bacha v Lipsku v roce 1980 a mnoha dalších.

Pravidelně účinkuje např. na festivalech Pražské jaro, Smetanova Litomyšl, Janáčkův máj v Ostravě a dalších domácích prestižních pódiích. Koncertoval téměř ve všech evropských zemích, také v USA, Kanadě, na Kubě, v Japonsku, Mongolsku, Jihoafrické republice, Singapuru atd. Bývá předsedou nebo členem porot mezinárodních hudebních soutěží, vyučuje na mezinárodních varhanních kurzech a seminářích.

V Tůmově repertoáru se nacházejí stěžejní skladby českých i světových skladatelů v širokém spektru stylů od renesance až po 21. století. Jeho diskografie čítá přes padesát sólových titulů. U firmy Supraphon mu vyšla řada kompaktních disků "Historické varhany Čech” zachycující autentický zvuk vzácných varhan různých epoch od renesance až po začátek 20. století. U firmy Arta Records vydal kromě významných bachovských titulů (Dobře temperovaný klavír, Goldbergovy variace, Orgelbüchlein, Toccaty, preludia a fugy) např. Třicet šest fug pro pianoforte Antonína Rejchy, Eklogy Václava Jana Tomáška, varhanní sonáty Paula Hindemitha a několik CD s varhanními improvizacemi, z nichž zatím poslední nazvané Moje vlast je sestaveno z improvizací na témata Bedřicha Smetany. Pro Český rozhlas pořídil vedle mnoha varhanních snímků také souborné nahrávky devětadvaceti klavírních sonát Jana Ladislava Dusíka a Lipských chorálů J. S. Bacha. Věnuje se i kolektivní improvizaci. V letech 2015 - 2017 např. realizoval sérii hudebně tanečních představení pod názvem Vyvolený aneb Řehoř na skále, kdy se stal inspirací pro pětici hudebníků, recitátora a tanečnici román Thomase Manna.

Jaroslav Tůma je mj. autorem hudby k filmu dokumentaristy Pavla Kouteckého Proměny Pražského hradu, dvou sbírek varhanních skladeb na témata Adama Václava Michny (Svaté lásky labirynth aneb Česká mariánská muzika 2014 a Loutna česká 2016) a odborné publikace O interpretaci varhanní hudby s přihlédnutím k jiným klávesovým nástrojům (2016).


Jaroslav Tůma (1956) is a concert organist and a professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He also performs on the harpsichord, clavichord, piano, and other keyboard instruments and devotes himself to composing and publication. He is a graduate of the Prague Conservatory under Prof. Jaroslav Vodrážka and of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under Prof. Milan Šlechta (organ) and Prof. Zuzana Růžičková (harpsichord). He won first prizes in organ improvisation competitions in Nuremberg in 1980 and in Haarlem (Netherlands) in 1986 and is a laureate of a number of organ competitions, including Linz in 1978, the Prague Spring competition in 1979, the Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1980, and many others.

He performs regularly at festivals including Prague Spring, Smetana’s Litomyšl, the Janáček May Festival in Ostrava, and on other prestigious Czech stages. He has given concerts in nearly all of the countries of Europe as well as in the USA, Canada, Cuba, Japan, Mongolia, South Africa, Singapore, and elsewhere. He often serves as a jury member or chairman at international music competitions, and he teaches at international organ courses and seminars.

Tůma’s repertoire includes major works by composers from his own country and from around the world, covering a broad range of styles from the Renaissance through the twenty-first century. His discography includes more than sixty solo titles. He has a series of CDs titled “Historic Organs of Bohemia” on the Supraphon label, capturing the authentic sound of rare organs from various epochs, from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century. On the Arta Records label, he has recorded not only important works by Bach (Well-Tempered Clavier, Goldberg Variations, Orgelbüchlein, toccatas, preludes, and fugues), but also, for example, Thirty-Six Fugues for Piano by Antonín Rejcha, Eclogues by Václav Jan Tomášek, the organ sonatas of Paul Hindemith, and several CDs of organ improvisations, the most recent of which, titled Má vlast (My Country), consists of improvisations on themes by Bedřich Smetana. For Czech Radio, he has made not only many organ recordings, but also complete recorded sets of the twenty-nine piano sonatas by Jan Ladislav Dusík and of the Leipzig chorales of J. S. Bach. He is also involved with collective improvisation. In 2015–2017, for example, he realized a series of musical dance performances titled Der Erwählte (The Holy Sinner) or Gregory on the Rock, with the novel by Thomas Mann as the source of inspiration for five musicians, a narrator, and dancers.

Jaroslav Tůma has composed, among other things, music for Pavel Koutecký’s documentary films Prague Castle through the Ages and two collections of organ works based on themes by Adam Václav Michna (Labyrinth of the Holy Love or Czech Marian Music, 2014 and The Czech Lute, 2016), and he is the author of scholarly publications titled O interpretaci varhanní hudby s přihlédnutím k jiným klávesovým nástrojům (On the Interpretation of Organ Music with Consideration of Other Keyboard Instruments, 2016), K vybraným varhanním skladbám Petra Ebena (On selected organ compositions by Petr Eben, English edition 2020) a Klavichord - téměř zapomenutý nástroj (Clavichord - an almost forgotten instrument, 2019).

Preisträger des Improvisationswettbewerbs der Internationalen Orgelwoche Nürnberg (1980) und des Orgelfestivals in Haarlem (1986), Laureat einer Reihe von Interpretationswettbewerben, z.B. in Linz (1978), im Rahmen des Musikfestivals Prager Frühling (1979) und beim Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Wettbewerb in Leipzig (1980).

Regelmäßige Mitwirkung an den Musikfestivals Prager Frühling, Smetanas Litomyšl, Janáčeks Mai in Ostrava und an anderen prestigeträchtigen inländischen Musikveranstaltungen. Konzerte in fast allen europäischen Ländern, auch in den USA sowie unter anderem in Kanada, Kuba, Japan, Mongolei, Republik Südafrika und Singapur. Häufige Engagements als Vorsitzender oder Jurymitglied internationaler Musikwettbewerbe, Veranstalter internationaler Orgelkurse und -seminare.

Tůmas Repertoire beinhaltet die wichtigsten Werke tschechischer und internationaler Komponisten in einer breiten Stilpalette, angefangen bei der Renaissance bis hin zur Gegenwart. Seine Diskografie zählt über fünfzig Solotitel. Beim Schallplattenlabel Supraphon veröffentlichte er die die CD-Reihe Historické varhany Čech (Historische Orgeln Böhmens), die den authentischen Klang exquisiter Orgeln aus unterschiedlichen Epochen, von der Renaissance bis zum Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts, dokumentiert. Beim Plattenlabel Arta Records spielte er neben bedeutenden Bach-Werken (das Wohltemperierte Klavier, Goldberg-Variationen, Orgelbüchlein, Toccaten, Präludien und Fugen) auch die Sechsunddreißig Fugen für Pianoforte von Antonín Rejcha, Eklogen von Václav Jan Tomášek, die Orgelsonaten von Paul Hindemith und mehrere CDs mit Orgelimprovisationen ein, von denen die vorerst letzten mit dem Titel Moje vlast (Mein Vaterland) aus Improvisationen zu Themen Bedřich Smetanas bestehen. Für den Tschechischen Rundfunk produzierte er neben der Aufnahme vieler Orgelstücke auch eine Gesamtausgabe der neunundzwanzig Klaviersonaten Jan Ladislav Dusíks sowie der Leipziger Choräle Johann Sebastian Bachs. Darüber hinaus widmet er sich auch der kollektiven Improvisation. So realisierte er etwa in den Jahren 2015-2017 eine Serie von Musik/Tanz-Vorstellungen unter dem Titel Der Erwählte oder Gregor auf dem Felsen, bei denen sich fünf Musiker, der Rezitator und die Tänzer von einem Roman Tomas Manns inspirieren ließen.

Jaroslav Tůma schreibt auch Filmmusik und komponierte unter anderem die Musik zu Pavel Kouteckýs Dokumentarfilm Wandlungen der Prager Burg. Zu seinen weiteren Werken gehören zwei Sammlungen von Orgelkompositionen zu Themen von Adam Václav Michnas Svaté lásky labirynth aneb Česká mariánská muzika 2014 (Der heiligen Liebe Labyrinth oder Böhmische Marienmusik 2014) und Loutna česká 2016 (Die tschechische Laute 2016), außerdem ist er Autor einer Fachpublikation mit dem Titel Über die Interpretation der Orgelmusik unter Berücksichtigung anderer Tasteninstrumente (2016).
